Letter P: using Jello finger paint & popcorn

Making the letter Pp was really quite fun. Since we had so much popcorn from the Popcorn Sensory  tub using popcorn was kind of a given. But I really wanted to make jello finger paint to add to the whole hands-on eatable experience, so I made only 2 colors, red and green.

Um..should have used at least a fun color of construction paper, the white is kinda boring.

We used white glue and a scoop of popcorn to make the P.

We made some Jello- Finger Paint to use with the Popcorn.
(A fun eatable way to paint with and eat at the same time!)

Jello-Finger Paint:

1 package of gelatin (small box)
4 oz of boiling water

Mix the boiling water into the gelatin and stir. When you first add water remember the gelatin will set up. SO if you want the finger paint a little more sticky like Jello than 4oz should be good, if you would rather it be a little less sticky and more spreadable than you would probably like more water.

On the left you can see the paper with some of the jello painted on with a paint brush.

Then we used the pocorn as a paint brush.

And of course River wanted to eat his paint!
(Jello is not a treat usually found around this house)

Then River took pieces of the jello and put them on the p.
(By the time we actually did the lowercase p, the red jello finger paint had
hardened so it was definitely the typical jello consistency, which actually worked out great!)

P is for Popcorn lovin Pirates

Since we still had a lot of popcorn it was time to put on our pirate attire,
sing our pirate songs, and find real treasure!

This time the tub was on the ground for some real pirate diggin'.
Pirate River and Pirate Rue LOVED being inside the popcorn.

I put various coins (even three $1 gold coin)s in the tub for
Pirate River to find, sort and count.
(We did find some left over pasta and P's.)
After he was done finding all the loot is when Pirate Mama-mimsi
let the wee ones jump in the popcorn.

The pirates pillaged and plundered!

When the pirates were done playing we dumped out the popcorn out for the chickens to eat.

I think they were a little overwhelmed with it all!

Popcorn sensory tub

This was the most fun sensory tub activities we have ever done and it was completely eatable! This week the theme is P, so I thought it would be great to put eatable P items in the 2 lbs of Popcorn kernels I popped in the Whirly Pop. (It's a pot with a handle that you turn over the stove.) So Pretzels, Pasta and other letter Ps were inside the Popcorn tub.

All the POPCORN!!!

I choose to put the muffin tin directly into the tub.
(The tub was one of those storage bin containers that has wheels you store under a bed.)

They found P the Pelican who pops popcorn!

This activity also enlisted the cooperation of everyone to dig, find, and sort together.

It was so much fun to see this idea materialize into something as fun as I hoped it would be!
